About
Jonathan Britton
Painter · Grand Rapids, Michigan
My practice is an exploration of visual information. Working across a range of traditional media — from the slow build of oil and encaustic wax to the entropic weathering of sanded layers of collage to the immediacy of charcoal. I am interested in how we deconstruct and rebuild the world through mark-making. There isn't always a unifying vision at the start of a piece; instead, there is a process of trial, error, and refinement. I am drawn to the technical challenges of different substrates and the unique "languages" of different pigments. This site serves as an evolving archive of those experiments—a place where the technical rigor of the craft meets the intuitive, often messy reality of creation.
I'm available for commissions or inquiries. Works can be purchased via email. Please visit the contact page for how that works.
